The administration of the District represents the executive branch of the District’s power. The Nenets Autonomous District is situated in the North-East of the European part of Russia. There are deposits of coal, and the evidences of the presence of manganese, nickel, copper, molybdenum, gold and diamonds were discovered. The favorable geographical position (along the coastline in the northeastern part of European Russia, which means that thank to the proximity of the Northern Sea Route the European marketing outlets are easy of approach) plays special part.
The District’s territory possesses considerable wind-energetic potentialities. According to the data from the long-term observations the annual average wind velocity is one of the highest in Russia (4-8 meters per second).
Nenets National District was founded on July the 15th, 1929 and it was the first national district in the Far North of Russia. On October the 7th, 1977 it was renamed into Nenets Autonomous District. In 1993, in accordance with Constitution of the Russian Federation the District became the constituent entity of the RF. Nowadays, Nenets Autonomous District is a part of Northwestern Federal District.
The construction of the all-purpose road from Naryan-Mar to Usinsk (Komi Republic), which is 386 kilometers long, is the most promising project in the transport sector. There exist the other investment projects: namely, the reconstruction of the airport runway in Naryan-Mar and the reconstruction of the town of Amderma’s airport. The construction of two trunk railways from Vorkuta to Ust-Kara and from Sosnogorsk to Indiga is planned. The projects are mentioned in the list of the projects “The Strategy of the development of the railway transport up to the year 2030”. The Institute’s specialists designed the engineering structures of BAR (Belt Auto Road) with total length of 20 kilometers: bridges, trestle bridges, grade separation structures and traffic interchanges. The biggest BAR project in Saint Petersburg is the first cable-stayed non-draw bridge across the Neva named Bolshoi Obukhovsky.
In 2010 the Institute finished the project designing of the Western Speed Diameter in Saint Petersburg, which is one of the most large-scaled and sophisticated road designing projects of modern Russia.
